| The Eichkatzerl (squirrel) was already mentioned in newspapers in 1880, though this Apfelwein-restaurant has probably existed much longer. Its name Eichkatzerl comes from the large number of nuttrees that it was surrounded by. Two years ago, the only two remaining trees unfortunately needed to be chopped down due to age. From time to time you can now still find a squirrel on the few remaining sycamore trees.
The Eichkatzerl still today is a very cosy place, whether you spend your time there in the old guestroom (where you can find mural paintings from the famous painter Hans Schneider), its extended part (where they pressed the wine themselves) or in its newly designed garden. At the Eichkatzerl, you can enjoy traditional Frankfurt cuisine, a daily menu or seasonal dishes (game, mussles, ) and sometimes different themes such as pastaweek, a pancake-menu, Swabian week etc. The Apfelwein, before being served, is tested and finished before it receives its official Eichkatzerl Apfelwein title. Generally, the Eichkatzerl is quite well booked. The place can therefore be rented out for privat parties on Mondays only. |
